Foil and Fiber Strain Gauges

As part of a Phase I SBIR <link> conducted with the Air Force, Lambda has been developing a fiber optic strain gauge. The objective was to develop a sensor capable of measuring accurate strain on a force-balance mounted in a wind tunnel. Advantages of fiber optic sensors over conventional foil strain gages include their ability to withstand higher temperatures and immunity to electromagnetic interference. The sensor currently being developed at Lambda is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 900 deg F due to its unique and innovative design. If you have an application that calls for accurate strain measurements in a high-temperature or high EMI environment, please <link>contact the Lambda team.
